Data processing
Contrary to conventional UT or PAUT, it is customary to do data processing on TOFD data before analysis.
- In order to have more accurate measurements, the wedge delay can be recalculated several times for different positions during data analysis. This is possible because, on straight surfaces, the lateral wave can be assumed to be at the surface of the part
- The lateral wave can be rectified for an easier read of the data
- The lateral wave can be removed to reveal buried signals
Although lateral wave straightening and removal are useful tools, only good settings and careful scanning can provide good scans.
