Pulse echo

Pulse echo

The pulse echo technique uses one probe. The probe is used as the transmitter and receiver.

  1. The probe is put in transmitter mode and an ultrasound wave is sent into the part. The probe is then switched to receiver mode and, if there is no obstacle, the wave bounces on the backwall and is caught by the probe
  2. If there is a small lamination, part of the wave bounces on it while the rest of the wave bounces on the backwall. Both portions of the wave are caught by the probe in receiver mode
  3. If there is a large lamination, the wave bounces on it and is caught by the probe in receiver mode

Pulse echo is a widely use technique. It can be use for lamination check, corrosion mapping or weld inspection.
